Why Memorize the Bible?
Memorizing Scripture is one of the best ways to grow as a follower of Jesus. A verse you know by heart goes with you everywhere: into a hard conversation, a hospital waiting room, a sleepless night or a moment of temptation. The psalmist wrote, “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee” (Psalm 119:11), and Jesus himself answered temptation by quoting Scripture from memory (Matthew 4:1–11).
The Bible says that “all scripture is given by inspiration of God” (2 Timothy 3:16). The word translated “inspiration” means God-breathed. When we memorize it, we are storing up God’s own words to shape how we think, pray and live.
